Cat Takes The IT Way…
After long deliberation on whether to take the high road as GMAT/GRE, IIMs finally decided to put CAT with the mouse. Now this would ignite many queries in in any mind.
Some of these would be : Would it be in an adaptive form ??
Would this increase the difficulty level??
What will be the pattern and so on…
Well, I have tried to solve many of your queries.
How Online CAT is going to be different from the previous CAT???
a) It will be a computer based test (CBT), so anybody who is not very familiar with using a simple mouse and QWERTY keyboard should start using computer very extensively.
b) It will span over a number of days as compared to a single test day as in previous CATs.
c) It could also involve different time slots in a day. So in nutshell, there will be so much to choose from, like the day and time according to one’s convenience.
d) There might be two scenarios in a (CBT); one would have to answer question given on the screen before one can move to the other question and all question might be compulsory, second scenario one might be able to move back and forth and solve only selective questions.
e) In all probability, participants will be provided rough sheets to work on and the same would have to be returned to the invigilator, once the test is over.
Would this increase the difficulty level??
As observed in the previous CATs over a long period, pattern for CAT has never been certain, so there is no surprise that there will be many surprises.
There is a possibility that one might have to compulsorily attempt every question in the paper, so one has to prepare for all the as against choosing which topics to prepare.
Time management would play a greater role as compared to previous CAT. As the CAT goes online, participant would be required to shuffle between questions.
So in all there is nothing much to worry about. Anybody with average computer skills or somebody who has ever used computer in his/her life should not find it difficult to clear this exam. CAT over the time has earned the reputation of being the most smart test of its kind worldwide, so for the smart and intelligent aspirant it should not make much of a difference.
And as a matter of fact, PT Education had envisaged this possibility years ago and is the first institute in the country to start online mock CAT as early as in 2006 and last year PT Education had as many as 10 online Prac Cats. PT also has a database of questions with audio/visual analysis, available on net. This serves two purposes: one any PT student can get the solution to his/her queries any time of the day and second it increases the preparedness for appearing in Online CAT.
PT Education, Jalandhar centre has a dedicated computer lab to cater to the needs of the students to practice online.
Although the test has gone online, they are still testing your aptitude skill not your computer skills. So an earnest MBA aspirant can actually drive a lot of mileage from the online CAT.
